Cat: Henry – Charlotte, NC (Sept 11, 2006 – Oct. 8, 2020)
Henry passed away in the early morning of Thursday October 8, 2020 in the loving arms of his Dad. Henry was an incredibly sweet guy who was quiet and understanding and possessed an old soul.
As a child he liked nothing better than to jump in his unsuspecting Dad’s lap while he was reading the newspaper and quickly run off and hide behind a chair.
Every year he looked forward to Christmas and spent many December evenings sitting under the tree marveling at the magical lights. The best times were spent on the front porch making sure Dad noticed the mockingbirds in the maple tree and the ladybugs crawling on the marigolds.
He loved laying out in the sun, even if it was the hottest day in July. Friskies’ Tuna and Egg was his favorite breakfast and he treasured his Temptations on Saturday nights.
He had a special bond with his toy of 14 years, a little yellow bird we called Fudd. Henry never played with Fudd in the presence of anyone but when Dad would leave the house and come home he would usually find Fudd resting in Henry’s food bowl or floating in his water dish.
Henry was loved and wanted. He made a house a home. He filled that home with love, friendship, devotion, and an awful lot of cat hair. In life he taught his Dad how to share the best spot on the couch, to appreciate simple pleasures, and relish a good afternoon nap.
He grew over the years from a precocious and energetic kid to a handsome and dapper young man to a dignified gentleman of a certain age. There was not a day that went by that his Dad was not proud of him.
Your favorite chair is vacant now.
No eager purrs to greet me
No softly padded paws to run
ecstatically to meet me
No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry
Will say it time for feeding
I’ve put away your bowl,
And all the things you won’t be needing
But I will miss you little friend,
For I could never measure
the happiness you brought me,
the comfort and the pleasure.
And since God put you here to share
In earthly joy and sorrow
I’m sure there’ll be a place for you
in Heaven’s bright tomorrow
………….Alice Chase
