Dog: Gracie Lou (Aussie/ Border Collie/ Blue Heeler Mix)
(Born Mar 7th, 2007 – Died Oct 19th, 2019)
Gracie was an amazing dog, incredibly intelligent as well as athletic. Never caused much trouble, never complained, was always ready for an adventure, loyal from the beginning right to the very end. She was more than just a dog, she was a family member, and a friend to many many people.
She loved to catch Frisbees in grand fashion until her hips started to slow her down. She loved camping, hiking – she had her own backpack and carried all her own supplies on a 60 mile backpacking trip across the Shawnee Forest in southern Illinois. She loved swimming, watching me fish, truck rides with her window down, and boat rides with the wind in her face.
Hard to describe the love you have for a loyal dog, one that knows you seemingly better than you know yourself sometimes. Hard to describe how bad it hurts to let go of them also. She gave me a lot of great memories, and made a lot of people very happy along her journey.
She was with me through a lot during our time together, houses, jobs, girlfriends, marriage, kids, divorce. She was the only one who stuck around, the only constant in my life for a very long time.
I miss her but I’m glad she’s at peace. She passed from liver disease and arthritis issues. I had her euthanized and I held her in my lap through the whole thing. She never took her eyes off me.
See ya on the other side, old friend.
